How to Have a Healthy Family Meal

Sep 05 2010

Food supplies the nutrients that help our body function properly. Vitamin and mineral supplements can’t take the place of having a good eating habit. You need to choose a variety of foods from the five food groups. Whether we have a kid or a teenager, we all need the same kind of food. Here are the 3 best strategies to improve our eating habits.

  1. Have regular meals.
  2. Serve assorted healthy food and snacks.
  3. Be a role model.

It’s not that easy to follow all the three strategies particularly when you have a very busy schedule and convenient food such as fast food is promptly available.

I have here some ways to combine all four plans into your routine.

Family Meals

Family meals are rituals for both parents and kids. Kid’s like family meals and the parents get a chance to catch up with their kids. Family meals offer the chance to introduce kids to a healthy eating. Kids that eat regular meals are:

  • Likely eating fruits and vegetables
  • Less likely snack on unhealthy foods
  • Less likely to smoke

For teens, not like the kids, they may turn up their noses at the prospect of a family meal because they are busy and they want more independence. Use mealtime as a chance to reconnect with them.

 Consider these plans:

  • Allow your teen to invite friends to dinner.
  • Let your teen have a meal planning preparation.
  • Keep mealtime calm. Avoid lectures and arguing.

Every family meal counts, whether it is takeout food or home-cooked meals with all the trimmings. Always aim for nutritious food.

Eat well and we feel better. You’ll have stronger bones and teeth, better concentration, protection and resistance against many illnesses. Look for more good tips, important information, and good health recipes online as your guide.
